CV examples by role: managers, sales, finance, health, teaching and trades

Every field has its own definition of a good year. A sales manager is judged on pipeline, a nurse on safety and patient outcomes, a teacher on progress. A CV that borrows another field's language reads as generic — impressive-sounding and unverifiable at once.
The examples below are here to be adapted, not copied. Change the numbers to yours, and delete any line you cannot defend in an interview.
What makes any example work
Three things, in every field:
- The right unit of proof. Sales uses revenue and win rates. Teaching uses pupil progress. Healthcare uses outcomes, audit and compliance. Trades use first-time-fix, completion and rework.
- The right level. A manager's CV shows decisions and the people affected. An individual contributor's shows craft and throughput.
- Evidence the reader recognises. The tools, systems and standards their own team actually uses.
Management and team leadership
Profile: Operations manager with nine years across two distribution sites, responsible for 60 staff and a £4.2m cost base. Took the larger site from 71% to 96% on-time dispatch within nine months and held it for two years. Looking for a multi-site role where standardising process across locations is the core problem.
Bullets:
- Rebuilt the shift pattern after a 40% volume increase, cutting overtime spend by £180k a year without agency cover.
- Introduced a daily 15-minute tiered review across three shifts; escalations resolved within a day rose from 55% to 88%.
- Managed two site transfers, retaining 17 of 18 key staff through the change.
Management CVs are weak when they list duties of the role and strong when they show scale, decisions, and what changed because of them.
Sales and business development
Profile: Field sales executive with five years selling industrial consumables into manufacturing, carrying a £1.4m annual target. Finished at 118% of target across three consecutive years and opened 24 new accounts in the last twelve months. Looking for a territory or key-account role with longer, more technical cycles.
Bullets:
- Grew territory revenue from £820k to £1.4m in three years, closing the two largest accounts in the region.
- Cut average quote-to-close time from 22 to 11 days by rebuilding the proposal template around the buyer's cost model.
- Coached two new starters to full quota within two quarters.
Numbers carry this field, but a win rate or cycle time often says more than raw revenue. Show the number the hiring manager is measured on.
Finance and accounting
Profile: Management accountant (ACCA part-qualified) with six years in manufacturing, covering month-end, variance analysis and business partnering for two cost centres. Reduced month-end close from nine working days to five. Looking for a finance business partner role where the analysis is used to make decisions, not just report them.
Bullets:
- Automating three reconciliation schedules in Excel cut month-end close from nine days to five and removed around 30 hours of manual work a month.
- Partnered with the operations lead to identify £340k of addressable waste across two product lines, £210k of which was actioned.
- Prepared audit packs for three consecutive clean audits with no management-letter findings.
Show the systems (SAP, Xero, NetSuite), the standards (IFRS, UK GAAP) and the qualification progress. Precision is the point of the field, so let the CV be precise.
Healthcare and nursing
Profile: Band 5 registered nurse with four years in an acute medical unit, NMC registered, with additional training in venepuncture and male catheterisation. Led a falls-reduction project that cut falls on the ward by 40% over twelve months. Looking for a Band 6 development post in acute medicine.
Bullets:
- Led a ward falls-reduction initiative (bedside handover, hourly rounding audit), reducing recorded falls by 40% year on year.
- Precepted six newly qualified nurses and four student nurses, all of whom completed their placements with sign-off achieved.
- Maintained 100% compliance across mandatory training and revalidation requirements while working a full rotating rota.
This field expects registration status, banding or grade, and evidence tied to safety and quality. Avoid clinical claims you cannot evidence in an interview.
Teaching and education
Profile: Secondary English teacher (QTS) with seven years across Key Stages 3 to 5, currently head of a two-teacher department. Raised GCSE 9–4 outcomes from 62% to 81% in two years. Looking for a role with responsibility for curriculum across a trust.
Bullets:
- Raised GCSE English 9–4 attainment from 62% to 81% over two years through a reworked curriculum and fortnightly low-stakes assessment.
- Led a department of two through an Ofsted inspection rated good, with behaviour and curriculum both praised.
- Mentored an ECT through induction and ran the school's KS3 reading intervention for 24 pupils.
Name the inspection framework and outcomes your reader knows, and put progress figures in front of adjectives.
Engineering and manufacturing
Profile: Manufacturing engineer with six years in precision assembly, specialising in process improvement and new product introduction. Delivered four production lines from prototype to full rate, and reduced scrap on the highest-volume line from 4.1% to 1.3%. Looking for a senior process role in a regulated environment.
Bullets:
- Reduced scrap on the highest-volume line from 4.1% to 1.3% by reworking fixture design and standardising the first-off inspection.
- Led NPI for four products from prototype to full rate, each hitting volume targets within two weeks of launch.
- Introduced a preventive maintenance schedule that cut unplanned downtime by 90 hours a quarter.
Tools, standards and methodologies — CAD packages, Six Sigma, ISO 9001, lean — belong here when you can discuss them, because a hiring manager will test exactly that.
IT, software and data
Profile: Backend developer with five years in Python and PostgreSQL, currently owning the payments service in a 12-person engineering team. Cut p95 checkout latency from 900ms to 210ms. Looking for a senior role on systems that handle real transaction volume.
Bullets:
- Cut p95 checkout latency from 900ms to 210ms by replacing synchronous third-party calls with a queued retry path.
- Led the migration of the payments service to a managed Postgres cluster with zero customer-visible downtime.
- Introduced integration tests around the payment flow, taking release regressions from four a quarter to none in six months.
Specific, measurable engineering outcomes beat a list of frameworks. Anyone can list React; not everyone can show they reduced something by four-fifths.
Trades and site work
Profile: Time-served electrician (18th Edition, ECS gold card) with eleven years across domestic and commercial installations. Completed 40+ commercial fit-outs on schedule with zero defects at handover. Looking for a supervisory role on commercial projects.
Bullets:
- Completed more than 40 commercial fit-outs on programme with zero defects raised at handover.
- Supervised three apprentices through to NVQ completion, with all three retained.
- Worked across £2m+ projects, coordinating with mechanical, fire and data trades to keep first-fix ahead of schedule.
Certifications carry real weight in these fields — put the card, the edition and the years on the page early.
Adapting these to your own CV
Take the pattern, not the sentences:
- Pick the number your field is judged on.
- Put the scale next to it — people, money, volume, sites, patients, pupils.
- Name the tools and standards the reader uses daily.
- Cut anything that would read the same on a colleague's CV.
If you want this done across a whole CV quickly, CVPerfect will restructure and sharpen yours for one payment of £0.99 — the facts stay yours, the wording and layout are the work.
